Feyenoord and Tennessee Soccer Club (TSC) have entered into a Master Educational Partnership Agreement. Over the last 6 months the two clubs have been discussing and meeting about this partnership. The goal of the partnership is to push both player and coaching development at the Nashville based youth club. Feyenoord representatives will visit the US this fall for introductory kick off meetings and an extensive coaching seminar with TSC coaches. Moreover during the visit, Feyenoord Academy staff will be conducting training sessions for selected TSC players as well as the players who require technical skills to reach a higher competitive level.
Feyenoord Rotterdam is one of the most successful Dutch soccer teams. This year the Rotterdammers have finished 3rd in the Dutch Eredivisie, the highest level of professional soccer in Holland. Also about a month ago Feyenoord won the Dutch Cup with the help of Dirk Kuijt in its own famous stadium de Kuijp by beating FC Utrecht 2-1. By the virtue of the Cup victory, the club automatically qualifies for the group stages of Europa League '16/'17 edition, Europe wide club competition which Feyenoord has last won in 2002 by defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-2. That 2002 team featured a young academy starlet named Robin van Persie. Feyenoord youth Academy has been voted as the best youth academy in Holland for the last 5 out of 7 years. Players which came up via academy system include Giovanni van Bronckhorst (now the head coach of the 1st team), Georginio Wijnaldum (Newcastle United), Stefan de Vrij (now Lazio), Bruno Martins Indi (now FC Porto), Jordy Clasie (now Southampton FC), just to mention a few.
Tennessee Soccer Club is one of the most successful youth clubs, not only in Nashville, but the entire state of Tennessee and the region. As a premier soccer club, TSC teams have been the State club champions 125 times, southeast regional champions five times with five additional appearances in regional finals and two national finalists. With over 1500 players in the club this partnership will advance the training and development of players and coaches to achieve both team and personal success. TSC players and teams will have the opportunity to visit Feyenoord and experience a different level of soccer that is not readily available in US venues.
Through the partnership with Feyenoord TSC will be able to tap into Feyenoord's knowledge and experience in the field of player development. TSC Executive Director had this to say about this master educational agreement: "“TSC is the standard in regard to player development and coaching education in the state of Tennessee, however this agreement allows us to partner with one of the top academies in the world. This partnership will allow us to further develop our players and coaches as we strive to place players on college, professional, and national teams.”
For Feyenoord the partnership provides an avenue to further expand its foothold in the United States as a part of its overall global educational initiative. After hosting a TSC delegation in Rotterdam, Gido Vader, manager of international relations at Feyenoord had following to say: 'TSC staff had a clear message when they visited us in Rotterdam: they want to offer their players and coaches the best possible learning environment. We are certain the Feyenoord Academy can play a big part in that. It is a component of our philosophy to create these educational partnerships with solid youth clubs in the United States. TSC fits that bill.'
