    Protecting the ACL

    09/04/2014, 10:15pm CDT
    By SH

Volleyball, Football and Girl’s Soccer are in season now. Unfortunately, these three sports have higher than average injuries to the knees. The scariest is an ACL tear. However, the ACL can be protected and the risk of injury reduced. Just like how a volleyball athlete needs to learn the right technique for over-head serves, and a soccer player must learn proper heading technique, all athletes need to learn how to engage ACL protection movement patterns.

Lee Morris will be providing Tennessee SC’s coaching education this month for the entire coaching staff, August 27th & 28th at Embassy Suites in Cool Springs.

Lee Morris – In his own words…

I began as an apprentice at Sheffield United in the English championship & broke into the 1st team aged 17. At the age of 19 I was transferred to EPL side Derby County for £3million, one of the most expensive English teenagers ever at the time. During this period I was capped at England under 18 & under 21 level alongside players such as Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole & John Terry (amongst others!).

In 2004 I was transferred to EPL side Leicester City, unfortunately a series of knee injuries hit at this point & I struggled to ever really get going again.

I continued to play professionally for the next 7 years for a series of league clubs, retiring from pro football aged 31 after 16 years to continue work in the game as a coach.

Career highlights included playing at Wembley for Yeovil Town in a play off final, & beating Manchester United at Old Trafford to retain our EPL status whilst at Derby.

I began coaching at a semi pro club, as well as working in a pro academy at Burton Albion. I then progressed to work at Derby County, where I take the under 15's, as well as working with a variety of age groups for the Derby County development & shadow squads. I also coach young children aged 6-11 in after school clubs, and still work with a semi pro adult side.

I am UEFA C & B qualified, & have spent the required 22 days residential at St George's park, & now need to do my final assessment to become UEFA A licensed. I also hold the FA youth modules 1 & 2.

** This 7 week format will be broken down into Dribbling, Passing and Finishing days.  Moves to beat opponents will be a focus and small-sided play will be incorporated each night **

1 Ball, 1 Player, 2 Goals - Get better individually and have fun!

Drill for Skill is a program being run by Tennessee Soccer Club and will utilize some of our more experienced and higher licensed coaches.  This is an opportunity for your child to get more touches on the ball, gain more professional coaching to improve their personal development, and to have fun in a futsal (indoor) environment.

This is also an opportunity for an extra night of training during this 7-week period (desired third night).  Space is limited!!!  Only 50 spots are open each night.

Who: Boys and Girls, Ages U7 – U14

PLAYERS inside or outside our club are welcome to attend. ($15 Insurance fee applies for players outside of Tennessee SC club)

What: Individual Skill Training / Small group Futsal

When: Begins Monday Sept 22nd, Wednesday Sept 24th, or Thursday Sept 25th

Time Slots:    Monday, Wednesday & Thursday,  6-7pm (U7-U10 players)
                          Monday, Wednesday & Thursday, 7-8pm (U11-U14 players)

Where: Franklin Field House (Basketball Surface)
1850 General George Patton Dr 37067

Why: To improve technique and confidence while having fun.  Mix of individual instruction, playing games, and team building exercises.  Technique is the foundational element and pre-requisite to Tactical knowledge.  Without sound ball control, good decision-making becomes obsolete.  Players need skill work!!
