TSC Cares Raises Nearly $36,000 for Special Olympics Tennessee Soccer Program and TSC

Feb 27, 2023

FRANKLIN, TN – Tennessee Soccer Club hosted its annual Soccer-A-Thon on Saturday at Robert Ring Arena in Franklin, TN to raise money for the Special Olympics Tennessee (SOTN). TSC has raised nearly $36,000 to help the SOTN soccer program and TSC, with another day (donation period ends Tuesday night – CLICK HERE TO DONATE), they are hoping to achieve the ambitious goal of $50,000. Participants filled the arena, with over a dozen athletes from Special Olympics as well as over 100 TSC players and coaches helping run the clinic, playing and, participating throughout the day of festivities.

“Soccer-A-Thon was another HUGE success this winter and we enjoyed our time on the field with the Special Olympics athletes over the weekend,” said TSC Tournament Director & Events Coordinator Jimmy Drain. “Seeing all of the smiles, high-fives, and hearing the laughter amongst everyone involved is the real reason we host this annual fundraiser.”

In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Special Olympics of Tennessee was forced to suspend its soccer program. Over the last two years, TSC has helped raise over $70,000 to help re-launch the program and provide wonderful opportunities for the Special Olympic athletes.

“The donation totals are also something to celebrate as these funds help SOTN with their numerous programs throughout the year. I cannot wait to do this again in 2024,” Drain added.

TSC began working with Special Olympics Tennessee in 2016 and has helped raise over $210,000 toward the cause.

“The Soccer A Thon is an event our athletes look forward to every year. The funds and support raised by the players through Tennessee Soccer Club has helped build the soccer program in our state, and it continues to fund its growth and development. Witnessing young leaders in the sport working with our athletes speaks so highly for the future of the sport,” Adam Germek, President and CEO of Special Olympics Tennessee said. “Each year, we continue to see growth in the sport thanks to the staff, coaches, players, and supporters of Tennessee Soccer Club. Thanks to the support, in 2023, we will be dedicated to growing Special Olympics soccer including the establishment of the first Special Olympics State Soccer Tournament since 2013.”
